The history of Youtube

Have you heard of the service called PayPal? It was 3 guys who worked for them, which started their own idea. They followed a dream, to create a video sharing site which was easy and effective. Like other entrepeneurs, they literally started youtube out of their garage!

The domain was activated February 2005, not so long ago. It took the next half a year to develop all the programming, the channels, subscriptions, messaging, etc. This was likely an exciting time, as they obviously knew they were onto something. Who would spend 6 months working hard on something If they didn't have faith? Its not like they were getting paid for this project.

Their beleif attracted investors, and the firm senquoia capital invested over $3 million dollars, and just one year later they invested another $8 million, noticing just how fast this was taking off.

In 2006 it reached the 5th most popular website in the world according to the alexa stats, even growing faster then myspace. Did you know they spend over $1 million per day on bandwidth just hosting the website! This is why they aren't making lots of money exactly, but they are working on it.

The company was sold to google in exchange for over $1.6 billion dollars in stock. The original founders named Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim are still involved today, and building many new features all the time.
